My laptop is 7 years old and its screen slowly started turning red. I deduced there was a problem with the backlight, most likely the power inverter. My roommate and I took apart our screen and while the TFT was working when we started, we definitely killed it.

Here is how to mess up your LCD/TFT:

-Be really agressive, don't be careful at all, make sure to work in a hurry and rip things when you could unscrew them. Manhandle everything.

-Strip screws.

-Push on things that you dont know what they are, this usually leads to tearing wires and circuits (see picture on the right).
